In August of 2000 I left my family to serve a two year mission in Hawaii for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were two of the best and
most difficult years of my life. I loved that I could serve the Lord and His people in Hawaii, but it was difficult to be sick all the time. Dispite the difficulties that I
had to endure, I would never trade those years for anything else.
The MTC

On 16 August 2000 I left my family and friends to go to the MTC in Provo, Utah. For three weeks I received training on how to present the gospel. My district consisted of ten missionaries: six went to Hawaii, four to Indianapolis. My companion, Elder Kuhni, was going to Indianapolis.

The Nanakuli Area

I was trained as a missionary by Elder Smith. I served with him in Nanakuli for about three months. He was a hard working missionary so we got a lot of work done. We lived out of our area so I was usually pretty tired by the time we biked into our area to work.

The Waialua Area

I served in the Waialua Ward for seven and a half months. I enjoyed my time there, though at times I was a bit anxious to transfer to new parts of Hawaii. I met many wonderful people in Waialua and I had many great experiences.

The Pukalani Area

The third area that I was assigned to was Pukalani on Maui. My companion was Elder Chandler. We lived in an old chapel in Kula that was moved and transformed into a home for the missionaries, and right next to us was the historic Pulehu chapel, the first LDS chapel in Hawaii.

The Makiki Area

The Makiki area is right in the middle of Honolulu. Elder Lee was my first companion. He was a very experienced and able missionary and he helped me a lot to adjust to being a Senior companion.

The Keaukaha Area

The final area that I served in was the Keaukaha area on the Hilo side of The Big Island. It was wonderful. The ward was so close like a family and when we went tracting, even the "mean" people were nice to us.
